SignAble – Empowering the Deaf with Real-Time Communication
We partnered with SignAble to bring their vision of empowering the deaf and hard-of-hearing community to life-an app that facilitates real-time communication through video and voice interaction with sign language interpreters. The goal was simple: provide accessible, on-demand communication for users anywhere, anytime, to foster greater independence and inclusivity. By developing a seamless mobile application with Video Relay Services (VRS), we helped SignAble create a scalable platform that enables real-time communication with no specialized hardware needed.
The Vision
SignAble’s mission was to bridge the communication gap for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals by offering instant access to sign language interpreters through a user-friendly mobile app. The aim was to provide real-time communication without requiring specialized hardware, enhancing independence and enabling users to connect with others effortlessly.
Scenario
Overcoming Communication Barriers for the Deaf
For many individuals in the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, communication is often a challenge-especially without being able to see facial expressions or lip movements. SignAble aimed to offer a solution that would allow users to connect instantly with interpreters. The key challenges included: Lack of accessible communication tools for deaf individuals Inability to communicate in real time with sign language interpreters A need for a platform that works reliably without additional hardware To solve these issues, SignAble required a mobile application that could support real-time video and voice calls, offering seamless communication and making accessibility a priority.

What we did
Creating a Seamless, Accessible Mobile Experience
We worked closely with the SignAble team to develop a mobile solution with the following key components: We designed a clean, intuitive interface for easy navigation and smooth video and voice calling, optimized for accessibility.Utilized Django to handle backend integration, ensuring seamless communication and data management.Implemented secure local storage using SQLite for user data, ensuring privacy and compliance.
Developed the app using Java and XML Layout to create a native Android experience that would perform well across devices. Enabled real-time synchronization with a centralized server for continuous communication analytics and support.
